Today’s Thought & Question for January 27, 2026: You are not tired because of your age

Question of the Day: How cold is it where you are?

Thought of the Day: "A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it." G. K. Chesterton

__________

Most of us assume the tiredness comes from time passing. From getting older. From having more on our plates than we used to.

But sometimes it’s not time at all.

Sometimes it’s repetition.

Tonight’s Thought of the Day and Question of the Day sit with a quieter idea. That what wears us down isn’t usually the big dramatic failures or life changing mistakes. It’s the small things we keep doing long after we already know better.

The late nights that don’t really restore us. The anger that feels justified but lingers longer than it should. The habits that seem harmless because they are familiar.

Today’s question is not asking you to quit anything. It’s not asking for discipline or reinvention. It’s asking something smaller and more honest.

What would feel different if a few things showed up half as often?

That question opens more space than it sounds like it would.

I explore this idea a little more fully in today’s piece, Thought of the Day and Question of the Day: What We Keep Doing After We Should Know Better, not to give answers, but to slow the moment down long enough to notice what keeps sitting at the table with us night after night.

You don’t need to fix anything tonight. You don’t need a plan.

Sometimes all that’s needed is a pause and a question that follows you into tomorrow.

If that kind of quiet reflection helps, you’re already in the right place.

Thanks for Reading.

Question of the Day: What do you always think you’ll remember but never do? Thought of the Day: You ain’t lost until you admit you are. _________ Some days don’t fall apart. They just feel a little off. You forget small things you were sure you’d remember. You stay busy, but not oriented. You keep moving, hoping clarity will catch up to you instead of the other way around. That’s where today’s reflection started. Not with a solution. Not with advice. Just with an honest sentence that landed...

Question of the Day: What is something that used to be easy but is now difficult? Thought of the Day: I would agree with you, but then we’d both be wrong. _________ Some changes announce themselves. Most don’t. They show up quietly. In the background. In the moment you realize something that once took no effort now takes patience. Or planning. Or a deep breath before you begin. We usually joke about those moments first. Humor gives us cover. It lets us acknowledge the shift without fully...

Question of the Day: What words, instead of curse words, do you say in front of children? Thought of the Day: I am to please, but my aim ain’t that good. __________ Most days, I am not trying to impress anyone. I am trying not to make things worse. That is especially true when children are nearby and something unexpected happens. A spill. A loud noise. A frustrating moment that arrives without warning. My brain scrambles, my mouth hesitates, and out comes a phrase that is absolutely not what...
